Blue Monday: Cherry Blossom Weekend

Blue Monday is hosted weekly by Smiling Sally.
To see more offerings, or to participate yourself,
please head on over to her blog.

The Cherry Blossom Festival was going full-blast in Washington DC this weekend, and this year Mother Nature cooperated amazingly well. Most years, we get massive amounts of rain dumped on us all week, or a huge wind storm appears early in April and blows all the blossoms away. But not this year. The weather was gorgeous all weekend.

We didn't attend any of the festivities this year, but one day last week the hubby took some time out of his busy work day to walk over to the Tidal Basin and check out the blooms. These are a couple of the shots he took with his cell phone camera - it takes really great photos, don't you think? Well, I suppose the photographer had something to do with that, too. (Click on photos to enlarge.)

Here's a shot of the cherry blossoms with the Jefferson Memorial in the background. Beautiful blue sky and water.

And this one gives you a bit of an idea of the kinds of crowds he met.

  1. Your photo with the Jefferson Memorial is fabulous! How beautiful and how lucky you are to live close enough to see such a spectacular floral display!

  3. You may remember that I was raised in DC, so thank you for showing these pictures. I remember walking around the Tidal Basin each year to see those magnificent trees, gifts from Japan. Happy Blue Monday.

  4. Oh, how I love this scenery. We don't live terrible far away....just a couple of hours, but it seems we just don't get to DC that often.

I love the architecture and the cherry blossoms. Our middle son thinks all of the marble stairs of the Supreme Court Building would be a great place to skateboard. We have, of course, told him otherwise. Maybe its good we don't live any closer. lol
    Sigh.

  7. I saw a news story about the cherry blossoms being outstanding this year and from the footage they showed, they were right! I would love to see them -- do they make you sneeze? The photo of the Jefferson Memorial is gorgeous -- you and Michael take such lovely photos that you should publish them -- in a coffee table book -- I would buy it! And yes, his phone camera takes wonderful photos.
