Blue Monday: Birthday Blues

Yesterday was my birthday. Don't ask which one -- but it was one of the BIG ones. And one of the depressing ones, too. But I was greatly cheered when the hubby brought home this adorable little cake (chocolate, of course). He very wisely decided against candles. But he also bought some cute blue plates and napkins, which was especially surprising (given that he is, after all, a man). Altogether, it made me feel much better about being such a senior senior citizen. And reminded me of why I married the guy in the first place! Thanks, sweetie.

Saturday Snapshot: All Dolled Up for Tennis

I know it's a little late in the day for this (almost NOT Saturday anymore), but I've been watching the US Open on TV all day, and thought I'd put up a post about it. But since I'm basically a very lazy person, I decided just to post a couple of photos of one of my Ginny dolls in her vintage tennis outfit. Both doll and outfit date from the mid-1950s and were quite fashionable in their day -- which just shows how much dolls and tennis have changed.

Ginny is about 8 inches tall, and she'd probably have a better chance on the court if she could find some tiny tennies for her footsies instead of those mary janes!

Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don't post random photos that you find online."

Cat Thursday: Random Cats

Once again it's time for Cat Thursday. These are just a few kitty shots taken while out and about in recent weeks.

A stone lion guarding entry to a men's clothing shop. One of a pair.

A feline boot scraper in Old Town Alexandria

And a very important sign on someone's front door.
With a few reflections thrown in.

Blue Monday: Boardwalk By Night

OK, last photo from our summer trip to Rehoboth Beach -- no, I promise this time! But the Labor Day weekend always makes me nostalgic for the summer just passed. And as I was looking back over the photos we took, this one jumped out at me. It's a shot of the boardwalk and the beach from our hotel room balcony, taken just after sundown when the sky was still fairly light. A little grainy because I didn't want to use the flash -- and because I'm actually a really lousy photographer. But I know a good blue when I see it!

Saturday Snapshot: Lost in the Mist

One of the wonderful things about living so close to Washington DC is the availability of all the great art you can see in its museums and galleries. We don't visit as often as we should, but I do love the National Gallery and always see something new and amazing when I'm there.

Here's a shot I took the last time we were at the Gallery -- an art lover deep in contemplation of a painting by Jackson Pollock. From 1950, its official designation is just Pollock, Number 1, but it's usually known as Lavender Mist. And the mist certainly had this young woman mesmerized.
