Blue Monday: Railroad Blues

Blue Monday is hosted weekly by Smiling Sally.

One Saturday, a few weeks ago, M and I ventured into DC for the National Train Day show at Union Station. Weren't the banners a lovely blue?

We were hoping to see some really interesting model train exhibits (M is a real enthusiast, if not a practitioner), but the only one we got a look at turned out to be more in the realm of Thomas the Tank Engine. But it seemed to be fascinating the kiddoes, and after all, that's who it was aimed at.

This guy in the green leaf suit was advertising Amtrak's high-speed Acela train, which is supposed to be "the green way to get there." Not sure what that was all about, but I did admire his lovely blue hat and shoes.

It was obviously the place to be, that weekend, but the lines were long and the crowds were thick.

And the music was LOUD.

In fact, that's what ultimately drove us away, and back to our nice quiet Virginia retreat. We must be getting even older and more boring than I realized.

  1. National Train day certainly looks a lot of fun.

  2. Train Day looks like a lot of fun if you have the energy. I'm afraid I don't cope with crowds these days but if I'm feeling energetic I might be up for it :-)

  3. What a delightful surprise you GAVE ME today, Joy! I grew up in DC/MD area, and my father worked at Union Station--isn't it beautiful? Ah, the memories! Happy Blue Monday.

  4. I would have enjoyed being there with you on this tour, except, I would not like the crows or loud music. I too old for that now. I like peace and quiet.

  5. Like those toy train, I bet kids and adults do enjoy it. Happy Monday!

    BM-Memorial day

  6. Well I'm only 30 and I don't like crowds or loud music either!! :)

    Have a wonderful Blue Monday!

  7. oh, we hate crowds too! Home Sweet Home! Happy Blue Monday <3

  8. Crowds are fun if you can watch them from a distance. Thomas Trains and Lego (would have been a nice touch) are any kids dream.
I am with you on the music. If it is too loud, it is noise.
