Saturday Snapshot: Foxy Visitor

Since we moved out here to the sticks (sorry!) this semi-rural area, we've seen several foxes around our neighborhood. It's always a thrill to see them out running around, since mostly they stay hidden. But lately we've had one napping in our backyard patio area.

I guess it's a good place for a siesta -- very secluded, and this time of year we're not out in the garden as much as we would have been a few weeks ago. At least, not in the middle of the day.

He comes mostly in the late morning and afternoon. I suppose all the rest of the time he's out hunting.

He's really a gorgeous creature and lots of fun to watch. (From a distance and through a window, of course! Which is why the shots are all a little fuzzy.) He looks sort of like a terrier, but he's also very cat-like -- especially when he seems to be sleeping with his eyes just a teensy bit open.

I'm pretty sure he knows we're here, and occasionally he'll glance up at the window while we're watching him. But he's really very nonchalant about the whole business -- a pretty cool customer.

Saturday Snapshot is now hosted by Melinda @ West Metro Mommy Reads.

  1. Wow! Your "fox" tale takes me back to the thirteen years I lived in the foothills (1994-2007), and we also had foxes come around...coyotes, too, and once two bobcats. They were also nonchalant, but they freaked me out a little bit...LOL.

Great shots...thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.

  2. What a beautiful animal. We don't have much wildlife in the suburbs where I live (an occasional coyote, plus the usual squirrels and raccoon). What a delight to have a fox visit your garden.
My Saturday Snapshot post is HERE.

  3. Oh my! I've never seen a fox and I've always wanted to see one. Lucky you!

  4. Oh, how cute...but I'm not sure I'd want one in my backyard (especially with my kids running around).

  5. He looks very chilled. I occasionally see foxes in my garden, and if out walking at night they cross your path a lot.

  6. Wow! You get fox as visitor. In this concrete jungle of Bangalore, it is like a dream.

  7. Foxes are a feral pest in Australia and highly discouraged from hanging around, so it's a little weird hearing them being described as cute and adorable!
Great action (sleeping) shots though :-)

  8. How adorable! I have only seen one fox around here but Allen has seen one in our yard. Not taking a nap, though, more like running like the devil to get out of our yard. This would be very unusual, I would think, to have one living near your house -- probably resting against the concrete to keep cool. He (or she? do you know?) seems rather tame so he has probably been there for a while. I love seeing how it is sleeping on it's back! Very dog like. He probably would never bother you -- just don't feed him!
