Outdoor Wednesday: Mystery Flowers

Beach week is almost here! The week we wait for, all the year! (Gee, I'm a poet.) If all goes well, we'll be heading off soon for a few days of sand and surf and seafood on the Atlantic coast. I've been looking through some of the photos I took in Rehoboth last year, and found these shots of some strange-looking plants we noticed in a little alleyway.

I have no idea what they are, and the shop next to them was closed so I couldn't go ask anyone. But I thought they looked a little like the spore-producing plants in one of the classic Star Trek episodes. (Don't get too close, or they'll take over your brain!)

Any idea what they might be?
