Friday Fill-Ins

Wow, Friday again so soon! This summer has really slipped away from me, I'm afraid. It's already time for another round of Friday Fill-Ins, so here we go (prompts in boldface, answers in italics):

1. It's fun to waste time playing with my blogs. Wasting time is my favorite sport.

2. Anything that is easy to make is what I'll be fixing for dinner.

3. I like to be somewhere cool when it's hot outside. I think the person who invented air-conditioning should be nominated for sainthood.

4. Just who are the Kardashians? I will never know!

5. Something I'm very much excited about is my (soon to be received) birthday gift from the hubby. I just haven't quite decided exactly what he'll be giving me this year.

6. ------- was well worth it. Hmmmm. Not sure about this one. My brain is short-circuiting again.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to a nice quiet evening with the hubby and maybe one of our Netflix movies, tomorrow my plans include not much of anything at the moment (I love that) and Sunday, I want to get some reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins

Wow, it's been a really long time since I did one of these Friday Fill-Ins posts. Where've I been? I have no idea, but here goes (prompts in boldface, answers in italics):

1. The only question is what is the answer. No -- what was the question?

2. Rome wasn't built in one day. So they tell me, anyway. (Believe it or not, I wasn't there.)

3. Three things on my desk: my computer; my iPod; a mess of pens and papers. (Emphasis on MESS).

4. Wake up is the one thing I HAVE to do today!

5. I love playing with dolls. Still a kid at heart.

6. Summertime overwhelms the senses. At least, it has this year.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to getting back to normal after my visit to the dentist yesterday, tomorrow my plans include a little shopping and errand running (and no visits to the dentist!), and Sunday, I want to just relax and try to get some reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins 2011-05

So now it's February. Not one of my favorite months, but at least it's been a little better than last February around here - so far, anyway. And now it's time for the first Friday Fill-Ins of the month, so here we go:

1. We are on this earth because where else would we be?

2. I guess experience really is the best teacher.

3. One of the hardest things for me to learn is not to waste so much time playing with my computer.

4. _____ connected. I have absolutely no idea here. My brain must be disconnected.

5. I remember warm weather, and I want it back!

6. Being able to talk everything over with my best friend is one of the best parts of my life. It's also nice that he just happens to be my husband, too.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to just a quiet evening at home and maybe another "Midsomer Murders" DVD, tomorrow my plans include a little shopping and errand-running if the weather doesn't get too awful, and Sunday, I want to watch the Super Bowl, and also get some reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins 2011-04

Time for another edition of Friday Fill-Ins! I think this is the first one I've done in 2011. And can you believe it's suddenly the last Friday in January? I sure can't. This new year is only a few weeks old, and already it seems I'm playing catch-up. Oh, well - here we go:

1. Up on the housetop reindeer pause. Sorry, I'm still singing Christmas songs.

2. The hubby is home sick today - he's got a touch of whatever's been going around.

3. Coats and scarves, mittens and boots: I absolutely hate dealing with stuff like this. Where's springtime?

4. There's nothing better than a nice back rub. Well, almost nothing.

5. I'm thinking about buying a Filofax organizer. Trying to decide which style I like best. Probably the Finsbury personal size in black.

6. All this snow can't be gone soon enough for me.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to staying in (and away from the snow) and spending a quiet evening at home with M, tomorrow my plans include not much of anything right now and Sunday, I want to watch the Pro Bowl and the new episode of "Downton Abbey" on PBS, and also get some reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins

Well, here we are at the end of another week. Almost the end of another year! Doesn't seem possible that 2010 is nearly over - I'm just now getting used to putting that one in between the zeros whenever I have to write the date. Don't know if that's a sign of getting old, or if I'm just a slow learner.

Anyway, it's Friday and time for another Friday Fill-Ins. This week, in honor of the holiday season, the prompts are in green and red. So here we go:

1. What in the world would I do without Friday Fill-Ins every Friday?

2. Wish I didn't look so well fed.

3. Go for the gold. Go tell it on the mountain. Go, go, go! Go, and never darken my door again. (Having a little trouble with this one.)

4. No one sent me any Christmas goodies this year (At least, not yet.)

5. I keep wondering how it got to be the end of another year so fast.

6. Ready or not, here comes Christmas!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to relaxing with M, and probably watching another basketball game (it's that time of year around here), tomorrow my plans include running errands and doing some shopping after the snow melts a little more and Sunday, I want to stay indoors and away from all the new snow we're supposed to have, and get some reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins #202

OK, I know it's almost not Friday anymore. Whoops! There it goes. We put up our Christmas tree today, and I'm just now getting a few minutes for blogging. So here are my Friday Fill-Ins on Saturday:

1. The best thing about a birthday celebration is the chocolate cake.

This was the cake at a friend's recent birthday party. Yum!

2. I'm trying to ignore the passage of time. (My brain is doing OK with that, but my body is having a much harder time.)

3. I went shopping recently and the most interesting thing I bought was a little miniature electric guitar that plays Chuck Berry singing "Run, Run Reindeer." It's a Hallmark ornament, and I bought it for M who collects full-size guitars and loves Chuck Berry.

4. I still enjoy playing a child's game now and then.

5. The reason is because I want to.

6. I really, really, REALLY don't like snow and cold.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to just doing a little reading and then getting to bed a bit earlier than last night, tomorrow my plans include a trip to the library, lunch at a local Mexican restaurant, and maybe a little Christmas shopping, and Sunday, I want to get the Christmas cards ready to mail, and also get some more reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins #201

It's been a few weeks since I did a Friday Fill-Ins post. Been doing a little traveling this month, so this is my first FF for November. Hope everyone had a fine Thanksgiving. M and I had a very quiet holiday this year - well, if you don't count all that shouting at the football games on TV, that is. We're both Texas Exes, so the UT/A&M game was a little painful for us. But that's all over now and today is the first day of the rest of our lives and time's a-wastin', so here goes:

1. Three things I must have on my Thanksgiving table: cornbread stuffing, my mother's silverplate, and a tablecloth I can throw in the washer when the day is done.

2. As usual, I spent part of Thanksgiving afternoon sacked out on the couch.

3. This is the day after Thanksgiving. Let the holiday madness begin!

4. The hubby loves to decorate our tiny Christmas tree. And I love to supervise, which works out just fine!

M in decorative mode.

5. Oh, man, thankfully it's not snowing yet.

Some of last year's record snowfall.

6. I have yet to perfect the art of _____. (I had a thought there, but it's gotten away from me - there are so many arts I haven't perfected!)

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to eating leftover Thanksgiving goodies and not doing much cooking, tomorrow my plans include seeing some sunshine for a change (I hope), and Sunday, I want to do some work on my genealogy databases, and get some reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins #197

So here we are at the end of another October. How did that happen? Wasn't it still September just a few days ago? The season is moving right along, but somehow I don't seem to be moving with it! But right now it's time for another Friday Fill-Ins, so here we go:

1. While the cat's away you can clean up all those hair balls on the carpet.

2. I'm thinking a little Mexican food for lunch would be muy fabuloso!

3. Children should be seen and not heard; some of them shouldn't even be seen. (With apologies to W.C. Fields.)

4. I usually head right for my computer when I get home from work or shopping or what have you. (Hello. My name is Joy and I'm a Mac-aholic.)

5. This may seem odd, but I can't think of a fill-in for this one. ( So many things seem odd to me these days.)

6. M is working from home today and that seems like a fine idea to me!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to just relaxing a bit and finishing up one of the books I've got going right now, tomorrow my plans include lots of shopping and errand running if the weather cooperates and Sunday, I want to start getting stuff ready for the trip to Texas in November, and also try to get some reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins #194

Wow, that week went fast! But I always say that, don't I? I'm doing these Friday Fill-Ins early and setting them to post on Friday morning, because we're getting ready to take off for a couple of days in the mountains. We try to get over to Shenandoah National Park once or twice a year, but this is the first time we've made it this year. My hubby, the Mountain Man, would have been sorely disappointed if the year had gone by without at least one visit. But enough of that. Here goes another FFI:

1. My favorite month is July because I love the summer, and July is summer at its peak.

2. Autumn brings a fresh breeze. (Unfortunately that breeze is full of stuff I'm allergic to.)

3. I love to sniff freshly-cut flowers and herbs from the garden. (I don't love all the sneezing, coughing, itching, and nose blowing that comes after the sniffing! Refer to No. 2, above.)

4. Full English breakfast is what I like to have as a treat for breakfast, complete with baked beans, fried bread, and stewed tomatoes. (Of course, I haven't actually had this treat since the last time I was in England, over twenty years ago!)

5. The hobby I enjoy most is _____. (Too many to choose just one. But I guess at the moment, the answer would be...blogging!)

6. Baked beans, fried bread, and stewed tomatoes, oh my!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to having a great dinner in the lodge dining room, enjoying the mountain air and maybe taking a moonlight stroll around the cabins, tomorrow my plans include probably a little light hiking, and then driving back to Alexandria (unless we decide to stay in the park another day!), and Sunday, I want to get some reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins #193

Friday Fill-Ins have returned! Glad to hear that Janet is OK after her back surgery, and hope she stays that way! We've missed her, and the Fill-Ins these last couple of weeks. But now it's time for the first FFs of October (October!), so here goes:

1. My back feels best when I remember to do my yoga stretches faithfully.

2. I'm not wild about all this rain we're having lately.

3. Leaves are falling all around, it must be autumn. (Bummer!)

4. One of the bad things about getting older is forgetfulness. (It's also one of the good things about getting older.)

5. Healing is easier when someone you love is taking care of you. (At least that's the way it seems.)

6. Lots of blog reading is what I've been up to lately! (Really need to get back to book reading.)

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to being able to eat real food for the first time since my dental adventures the other day, tomorrow my plans include the usual round of errands and shopping, and maybe watching our latest Netflix DVD ("The Last Station") and Sunday, I want to get some reading done...and see some sunshine - please, please, PLEASE!

Friday Fill-Ins #192

Well, here we are with a brand new month ahead of us. And I know a lot of folks are probably getting hints of autumn in the air, but around here it still feels a lot like August. Which is fine with me; I'm really not ready for summer to end just yet. But this is the Labor Day weekend, so I guess fall can't be too far down the road. But enough of this ruminating. Time for the first Friday Fill-Ins of September, so here we go:

1. Family history research is one of my favorite addictions.

2. _____ back and forth. (No idea for this one. Something about tennis? A yo-yo? Shopping at Target?)

3. I love a mystery. (Remember the old radio show by that name? Of course you don't. Remember radio?)

4. Just about anything that's bad for your health makes a good meal.

5. I've got the urge to go shopping for a new fall wardrobe. (But not the energy.)

6. It took me several baffled minutes to figure out what this means: wth!!! (I never do texting or txtng or IM-ing or any of those activities that have spawned this odd new vocabulary we're all supposed to be familiar with now. LOL. Not.)

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to relaxing with the hubby and maybe watching some of the US Open action, tomorrow my plans include having lunch out somewhere and doing some shopping if the weather cooperates, and Sunday, I want to continue rearranging the bedroom, and get some reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins #191

I know I say this every Friday, but I'm saying it again: Where the heck did that week go? Does it seem to anyone else that this was a really, really short summer? But I guess as you get older, all the seasons seem too short. Hmmmm. Depressing thought, that. Anyhoo – it's already time for another round of the definitely-not-depressing Friday Fill-Ins, so here we go:

1. You do your thing; I do mine and sometimes maybe we can do each other's. (That didn't come out right, did it?)

2. Not much is what's been on my mind on and off all day. (But the day is still young, and I'm still having my first cup of coffee.)

3. Remember when times were much simpler? (No, neither do I.)

4. My computer, my books, and my hubby (not necessarily in that order) are three of my favorite obsessions :-) (and a fourth is ridding the world of emoticons).

5. During the last year I have, officially, turned into an old broad. (And a nasty one, at that.)

6. Waking up on Monday morning and realizing I no longer have to rush out to the Metro puts a smile on my face.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to finishing up the book I've been trying to get through this week, tomorrow my plans include doing a little anniversary celebrating with the hubby and Sunday, I want to maybe spend a little time by the pool, watch the new episodes of "Rubicon" and "Mad Men," and get some reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins #190

Friday again! Another week just flew by. Time for another round of Friday Fill-Ins. So here we go:

1. Laughter is the way to my heart. Or at least, that's what my husband always says.

2. "Hi. Thanks for" are the three words that started off the last email I sent.

3. What I'm most looking forward to today is flying to Paris for lunch at one of those little bistros on the Champs Elysees. (What I'm actually going to do is return some books to the library, then do the grocery shopping and laundry. My life is very exciting.)

4. Seeing M coming home from work puts a smile on my face.

5. Where in the world will we be in a year's time?

6. This new Mac computer is just what I needed!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to relaxing with the hubby and maybe doing some grilling, tomorrow my plans include the usual shopping and errands, if the weather cooperates, and Sunday, I want to watch the new episodes of Mad Men and Rubicon, and also get some reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins #189

Wow, that week went by fast, didn't it? I'm beginning to get those end-of-summer blues even though we've still got several weeks of August to enjoy. But it's Friday and Friday Fill-Ins always cheer me up. So, here we go!

1. Music rocks.

2. Seeing my hubby is what I like first thing in the morning. (That, and a big cup of freshly brewed, strong, hot coffee.)

3. The first thing I said this morning was: "If you are." (M asked if I was getting up.)

4. Beef; it's what's for dinner tonight. (According to the commercials, anyway. Actually, at our house tonight, soup and salad is what's for dinner.)

5. It's all been _____ (Hmmmm....taken care of? a bad dream? a pointless effort? done before? more than I can take? right where I left it all along?)

6. Curling up with a good book is what I feel like doing right now. (Of course, that's what I feel like doing most of the time.)

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to relaxing with M, watching "Eureka" and maybe some preseason football, tomorrow my plans include shopping and running errands (if the weather cooperates) and Sunday, I want to maybe spend some time by the pool (if the weather cooperates - seems to be a theme developing here), and get some reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins #188

Can you believe we're already a week into August? This summer, like all summers, is slipping by much too quickly. I wanna slow down! Before you know it, the kids will be back in school and we'll be getting out those winter coats and cleaning up our snow boots. But I really don't want to think about that right now, so here goes another Friday Fill-Ins:

1. Life is not at all like a box of chocolates. Darn it.

2. This amazingly hot weather just seems to keep going. On and on and on and on and on and...

3. My last text message (or IM) ended in these three words: _____. I really don't have an answer for this one. I don't do texting or IM-ing or whatever you call it. I think I've sent maybe two or three text messages, and I don't store that kind of stuff on my phone, so I have no idea what the messages said. Probably something like "Hey, I'm txtng!"

4. Grilled tuna with M's special homemade salsa garnish is what I'm thinking about for dinner sometime soon. It's really delicious. So wonderful to have a hubby who can cook.

5. On the 1st day of August the poplar trees out front started dropping yellow leaves. They're always the first to go, every year. Makes me know that fall is on its way.

6. For an old broad elderly person, I think I'm still quite lively and energetic.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to just relaxing at home, preferably without any massive thunderstorms to terrorize us, tomorrow my plans include some errands, some shopping, and probably watching one of our Netflix DVDs ("Sherlock Holmes" is next up – I'm a big Robert Downey Jr fan) and Sunday, I want to maybe do a little grilling (see no. 4, above), watch the new episodes of "Mad Men" and "Rubicon" – and get some reading done!

You can MadMen yourself at the AMC website. This is the MadMen me (well, one of several versions of me):

Friday Fill-Ins #186

Didn't post a Friday Fill-Ins last week. We were at the beach, and I took a little break from blogging. But we're back now and it's been so amazingly hot these last few days, I've just been staying indoors and reading and playing with my computer. Fun, but it's making me feel really lazy. Oh, well, that's what summer is all about, right? Anyway, here goes another Friday Fill-Ins:

1. I feel pretty, oh so pretty. (Sorry. I was bitten by the West Side Story bug at an early age.)

2. I'm just trying to catch up. (Never gonna happen.)

3. Do not try to talk to me before I've had my morning coffee.

4. I always thought I was completely unique. (Until I realized I'm really just a slightly taller version of my mother!)

5. It's hard to know how much chocolate is too much. (Of course you knew chocolate had to be here somewhere.)

6. If today follows suit, we'll be having record heat around here. (Bummer.)

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to playing with the new computer and maybe watching the "It's Complicated" DVD we have from Netflix, tomorrow my plans include doing some shopping, returning books to the library, and having lunch out somewhere, and Sunday, I want to relax with the hubby, and get some reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins #184

Wow, that week went by quick, didn't it? Here we are with another Friday almost in the history books. And another Friday Fill-Ins to enjoy. So, here we go:

1. Layers of dark, rich, creamy chocolate. (Sorry. I just saw a recipe for brownies, and can't get the picture out of my head.)

2. Getting older has given me a lot of insight into the behavior of my parents' generation. (Wish there was some way of achieving that wisdom without getting so old!)

3. I'd be willing to bet _____. (Tough one. I'm just not a betting person.)

4. The frog scares the dog. (I'm not trying to be a poet here. I used to have a dog who was afraid of frogs. And lizards.)

5. I'm fond of chocolate! (See number one, above.)

6. I love chocolate too much! (Do you see a pattern developing here?)

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to relaxing in front of the TV with the hubby, tomorrow my plans include taking some thing to our storage place, and having lunch out somewhere and Sunday, I want to get some reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins #183

I seem to have missed out on a few Fill-Ins last month. Almost said this month. Still haven't gotten used to it being July. Don't know where June went – do you? Oh, well, c'est la guerre. And here we go (my answers are in blue):

1. When it's quiet I usually fall asleep.

2. Haven't done one of these Fill-Ins in what seems like a month.

3. My heart is doing just fine, thank you – gotta watch that blood pressure, though.

4. I don't trust the month of July.

5. In the town where I was born lived a man who sailed to sea. (And he told us of his life in the land of submarines.)

6. His unfailing ability to make me laugh is something I really love about my significant other / friend. (Also his complete honesty, but that's also one of his most maddening faults!)

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to not much of anything, really – guess I'll see what develops, tomorrow my plans include shopping the July 4th sales, and having lunch at Chevy's in Arlington and Sunday, I want to watch the July 4th fireworks from our balcony, watch the tennis fireworks at Wimbledon, and get some reading done!

Friday, June 4, 2010

Friday Fill-Ins #179

Can you believe it's already the 4th of June? I sure can't. May seems to have slipped away while I wasn't paying attention. I was in an allergy-induced haze all month, so it just breezed right past me. Bummer. Anyway, time for the first Friday Fill-Ins of the month. So here goes:
  1. A book store anywhere is my favorite place to travel to.

  2. When I think about my childhood, I often remember how brief it was.

  3. Someone with a lot of patience and a great sense of humor makes for a good friend. (Also nice if they have a place at the beach.)

  4. The wind in the trees, the rain on my skin. . . . (Sorry, but I hate wind and rain, so all I can think of is "YUCK!")

  5. Summer time is so exciting!

  6. My best friend knows how to make me smile.

  7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to watching another "Midsomer Murders" DVD, tomorrow my plans include shopping and Mexican food (I hope!) and Sunday, I want to watch the next Celtics/Lakers game (and try to keep the hubby from getting too despondent if Boston loses it), and get some reading done!

Friday Fill-Ins #178

Wow, it's been a really long time since I played along with the Friday Fill-Ins group. Where have I been all this time? Must've been busy doing something, but can't say what. Stuff happens, I guess. Well, I'm back, at least for now. So here goes:
  1. Anything I don't have to cook! -- the best food to take on a picnic.

  2. Summer time and the livin' is easy. (And the allergies are raging.)

  3. My feet get dirty when I wear flip flops.

  4. To love someone is one of the nicest things about being human (or canine).

  5. I always take along my walking stick when I'm going on a long hike. (And bottled water for those frequent rest periods. Oh, and quite a lot of chocolate, too - just for quick energy, of course!)

  6. When I crave food, it's usually something fattening or bad for my health, or both.

  7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to watching the NBA finals with the hubby (go, Celtics!), tomorrow my plans include probably some shopping, if it doesn't rain, and Sunday, I want to just relax and get lots of reading done!
